shopping guide: orange-you-glad?

It's Halloween week and not only are my kids already buzzing on candy (that is probably my fault!) - so am I! How can you resist those miniature bites of sugary goodness? If you have read this blog for a while you know that one of my obsessions is candy. This year I am particularly enjoying the Sponge Bob Crabby Patty gummis. I know, 32 going on 7. That's how I roll.

I thought it would be fun to do an orange themed Shopping Guide this week... in case you are going to be stylishly dressing the part. I don't usually do costumes... but a touch of orange I can definitely do!

(details: 1. Flamingo Flat, Seychelles, $90.65 2. Merino Wool Sweater, Forever 21, $24.80 3. Nixon Time Teller, shopbop.com, $60 4. Essie Nail Polish, beauty.com, $8 5. Time-In Time-Out Belt, Anthropologie, $30 6. Cotton Desert Shirt, JCrew, $65 7. Cambridge Shawl Collar Sweater, JCrew, $59.99)

How do you celebrate Halloween!?!?

What to Wear: Happy Weekend!

It's going to be a gorgeous fall weekend here... what will you be wearing? I'll hopefully be wearing some cozy and chic!

lovely....

I am high-tailing it to Chi-town (that Chicago for you non-mid-west peeps) for a few days with the kiddos... I'll be workin' while I am there - DO not fear!

While I'm driving with two kids that are driving me crazy... you can take the high road and just look at these lovelies instead. How nice am I?

You may ask why I am posting a handbag that is well over $1,000... why I think I can get away with that? I don't know. I just know that Balenciaga calls my name - on a regular basis. And for some reason, when I look at that bag... I forget that $1,000 is a lot of money. Ahem, thank you for reminding me. It's a lot. But it's lovely, no?

(Balenciaga Papier Tote, $1,164.00)

Isn't this little cuff the best? I love the subtle zig zag pattern... so cute!

(Jen's Pirate Booty Cuff, Shopbop, $28)

My brain is all "clogged" lately... all I think is clogs, clogs, clogs! I am hoping to make a pair mine soon for the fall. In the meantime, I just swoon! These are gorgeous... I do wonder if I could walk in them though. Hmmmm.

(Jeffrey Campbell Clog, $121)

I've been wanting a "sporty" watch for a while now and I am LOVING orange for fall. Isn't this one fun? I'm scheming how cute this would look with my work-out garb. But let's be honest... I don't need a watch at they gym. Planning gym outfits is a leeeetttle overboard. A jump I am willing to take, but not one I am likely to brag about.

(Adidas Watch, $65)

I have just been loving one-shoulder dresses lately. So feminine and summery! This one from Rachel Roy is half off. I don't quite think it would work for summer play-dates. But a mom can dream, right!?

(One Shoulder Drawstring Dress, Rachel Roy, $47.40)

Happy Trails folks!

shopping guide: white hot!

Again, this is a bit of a re-run if you receive my newsletter... you would have seen it there first! But it was too good not to put out here. White can seem so harsh and unforgiving of a color during fall & winter... and even a bit in spring. But when summer hits it feels like a glass of cold water tastes. Like a breathe of fresh air or a light breeze on a hot day. Just... ahhhhhh! Don't you think?

(details: 1. Fossil Watch, Lord & Taylor, $95 2. Flower Collar, TopShop, $85 3. Linen-Blend Boyfriend Shirt, Old Navy, $24.50 4. Tory Burch Flip Flops, Jildor, $45 5. White Boot Cut Jeans, Lands End Canvas, $49.50 6. Melie Bianco Metallic Trim Bag, Piperlime, $73.99 7. Schuyler Dress, JCrew, $99.99)

I love this watch... and it's on sale (only a bit, but still). Wouldn't it be perfect for summer... I'm picturing it on my tanned wrist.

good LOOK for less: EXPRESS, Leslie!

I recently got an email from Leslie... she is looking to spruce up her business casual wardrobe a bit! She said she can wear jeans and cords to work (a definite plus!) but likes to dress in layers to keep warm (I could never figure out why offices keep the temps so cold!).

Here are some fun and simple outfits I pulled together for her:

This outfit is comfortable enough for sitting at a desk all day, but is still pulled together with great accessories (hello, beautiful watch!) and is suitable for a day in a business casual setting no problem. What I especially love about this outfit is that it would be great for weekends and the cords can easily be swapped out for jeans which makes the pieces super versatile.

Again, here I have chosen simple and versatile pieces... but they aren't boring! A velvet jacket like this can be worn many different ways from fall to mid-spring no problem. Simple gold accessories bring the whole look together.

This outfit has a lot of spunk - it would be fine for work and fun to wear out with friends for dinner or drinks!

Happy Shopping Leslie!

shopping guide: {boys to men}

Why is it that the guys in our life are the hardest to buy for? Here's some gift ideas for the boys or men, or both, in your life this holiday season!

(1)
I've mentioned before that my brother just raves about MALIN + GOETZ products. If you have a guy that's into skincare... this starter kit would be perfect to discover his new favorite product! (Bloomingdales, $30)

(2)
It's no "man bag" but it is the perfect bag for your man! Great for men from college and up to serve as a laptop bag or a quick overnight bag. (Fossil, $78)

(3)
Every guy needs socks (don't let your man walk around with his toes poking out!)... why not some super snazzy ones? (Nordstrom $21, 3-pack)

(4)
My husband LOVES these wallets from JCrew... he's blown through one already. They really ARE magic? How? Try one! (JCrew, $24.50)

(5)
Watches are a great investment piece that men can collect like women collect handbags. Upgrade his watch wardrobe with this snazzy orange one. Perfect for casual weekend and summer nights (whenever those return!). (Kenneth Cole, $95)

Work it Wednesday!

I have to admit, I am in favor of the jumpsuit. Before you think I am crazy... think about this...

It's really no different than a dress, just with pant legs. And this one in particular strikes me as very forgiving. With the blouson top, the gathered waist and the flowing pant leg, how can you go wrong? It covers the bad and accentuates the good.

I'm sold. And for $22.80 from Forever 21, really, how can you go wrong?

My husband and I have a trip to Vegas coming up soon... part business (for him) part fun (for me... and him too!). Wouldn't these three outfits be rockin' fun in Vegas? Here's a Work It Wednesday for a weekend in Vegas (hmmm... I think I could wear this the whole time... no one would likely know the difference!!!

Fashion Formula: Mostly Black.

Last weekend I pulled together an outfit on the fly and after my husband, my son and a few people I ran into that day complimented me on it, I knew I had a winner. I even had my hair pulled back (which always seems like cheating, but heck, apparently when you are rockin' a great outfit, no one looks at your hair, who knew??).

When the weather turns chilly, I turn to black clothing.

To me it is comforting, comfortable and always chic (unless it's faded, let's just not go there, k?)

Here's a recreation of the outfit:

Oversized Black Sweater

Super Skinny, Super Dark Jeans

Knee-High Black Boots

With this super neutral, yet super chic look... feel free to add an accessory that is over the top and frivolous!

Fashion Friday... Toy Watch!

I just CAN NOT believe that it is Friday again already! But you won't catch me complaining! Who doesn't love Friday?!?! In this installment of Fashion Friday (where every Friday I make an ensemble from one of the items I highlighted this week on the 'ol blog)... I chose to go with the Toy Watch. Which I have nothing but pure love for. Oh, and also the pair of $19.50 patent flats I got from Old Navy. Because if lovin' $19.50 patent flats from Old Navy is wrong... I don't want to be right! I got these little sweeties in the mail today and they are adorable! Cuter than in the pic even! Without further ado... Fashion Friday folks:
