This September TOMS Shoes is slated to give away their 1,000,000 pair of shoes to children in need! Isn't that so cool? I know I have contributed a pair... and I'm getting ready to contribute my second pair. Have you contributed a pair yet? I got a gift certificate for a new pair for my birthday... I'm trying to decide which pair to buy... it's a hard decision!

Here is the post where I proclaim my love for TOMS, once again! But let's seriously get serious for a minute: If there is one thing that would warm my heart this holiday is that my readers would think critically about the gifts they buy and make them count. What do I mean by this? Well, Christmas is such a "plastic" holiday, and I am not just talking about your credit card. A few Barbies under the tree may not harm too much. But this year, I am personally going to do more to make less plastic and junk under our tree. Especially as a mom to young kids.

February Finds... 11!

Today's installment is a blog and a site and a product... all rolled into one!

I've been enjoying reading the blog Make Under My Life and I like the concept behind it - "designing a life of intention." Which sounds easy enough, but in our society can be difficult. It is nice to know that others strive for such great personal goals. I know I do, but easily fall short. For some reason, in reading her blog, I never noticed on the sidebar that she also has a jewelry business, Jess LC! And she makes beautiful jewelry... so chic!

I especially like her SOC CHIC line, jewelry with a cause (and if you know me I love a cause!) This is my favorite piece from the line... sweet and funky for Valentines Day!

Some of you may know that I am completely obsessed with TOMS shoes... I just love the idea of one for one. What a difference it would make in this world if more retailers did this! move on... move up...

one great thing about paring down your closet, is that if you shop smart to begin with you can move on and move up at the same time.  what i mean is this... by buying high quality pieces the first time around.  you can use ebay, craigslist or a consignment shop in your community to sell items that are a year or so old and getting a little eh to you and then turn around and use the money to continue to invest in additional quality pieces for your closet.  it's recycling - for money!

i don't know about your community, but mine has GREAT consignment shops.  in fact i've found two new ones in the past couple of months.  i am particularly drawn to the ones that have great window displays.  of course they are putting great stuff out there to draw you in, but then of course you know that they have great stuff!

i like consignment stores over the online stuff for two reasons.  the first is i am a tactile person, i like to see the clothes, touch the shoes, try on the purse, swing the skirts, flaunt the scarves, etc.  and because i usually "run into" things that i would have never thought to search for on ebay.  or maybe that's why i shouldn't shop them. er.

lastly, a good quality consignment shop will offer a donation service as well.  when i drop clothes at my local c.s. - whatever isn't sell-able or is out of season will get donated, in my name, to a local women's shelter or women's clothing mission and i get the tax benefits for it.

life the good life and spread it around.  it'll make you feel good.
