a new smoothie recipe!

You gals loved the last couple of smoothie recipes and were begging (okay, maybe just politely asking) for more!  I have been in a smoothie rut and not feeling too adventurous in the kitchen.  I wanted to bring you a new smoothie recipe that was out of this world and super amazing, one that would change your smoothie-loving life.  But it just wasn't happening.

Then one day I was making my classic strawberry and banana smoothie for the kids and thought… hey, I could just share this one! It's nothing fancy… but it's good! And while my kids won't go for the greens (I simply omit them) this is a smoothie our whole family loves so I usually make a double batch. If your kids don't like greens (like mine, if only greens were clear!) simply make the whole smoothie without them and pour theirs out of the blender and then add some greens and blend a little more to make your own green smoothie.

The orange juice (valencia oj is the only way to go!) adds the sweetness that the kids love while the whole smoothie gives them a solid serving or two of fruits and plenty of vitamin c for cold and flu season.  And the chia seeds are called "strawberry seeds" in our family. No way would my kids drink this smoothie if there was something "healthy" in them… so that little white lie goes a long way!

I hope your family loves this smoothie as much as mine… or if you are new to smoothies, this is a great first one to try!

If you are in the market for a blender… I can't recommend The Breville more! It's comparable to a Vitamix but at a way lower price point.  It's goes straight in the dishwasher without having to take any pieces apart - which is a huge bonus in my book.  We LOVE this blender and it gets used daily (if not more) around our house!

New Year New You: smoothie! The Peachy Keen!

I've got another smoothie recipe for you gals... this is another favorite of mine and it's got a lot of the same ingredients as the last smoothie but mixes in a few new ingredients for a totally different flavor.

Making smoothie ingredients "pantry staples" makes whipping up a smoothie for breakfast, lunch or dinner super easy.  I always have bananas and almond milk (or coconut milk) in the house and then I try to keep a lot of frozen fruits on hand too.  Buying frozen fruit can be cheaper than fresh (especially if you watch the sales) and is a great way to get super fresh fruits all year long. I don't want to buy a peach this time of year - yuck! But a frozen peach that was picked at the height of it's ripeness and saved for whenever you want to eat it - perfect!

This smoothie tastes just like peach pie! Yum!

The Peachy Keen Smoothie:
1 Banana
1/2 of a Peach (preferably frozen slices of peach)
1 Cup of Spinach
1 Tablespoon of Cinnamon
4 Ice Cubes
1 Cub of Almond Milk

Blend and enjoy!

The cinnamon makes this smoothie taste just like peach pie for little to no calories added and is a heart healthy ingredient that is believed to regulate blood sugar, decrease inflammation and aid digestion as well!  This smoothie clocks in at only 234 calories and makes a great breakfast or lunch!

If you are in the market for a new blender… I highly, highly recommend the Breville Hemisphere!  We just LOVE ours!

see you around...

New Year New You! My favorite smoothie recipe!

With the start of the New Year I thought I would share my favorite ways to stay healthy all year round. I am a smoothie junkie and usually try to have one a day for most days of the week.  Since that makes for a lot of smoothies I like to switch it up and I currently have a few favorites in my rotation!  Today I will share one and I will share a few more over the coming weeks!

Green smoothies are my number one way for getting a lot of nutrients into one meal and fast - they are great as a meal replacement any time of day - breakfast, lunch or dinner.

The Breville Hemisphere blender is the bomb blender. I know it's not the Vitamix, but it blends just as well for a fraction of the price.  It's still not cheap, but I have burnt out so many motors on blenders that I know not to go cheap with a blender anymore.  Plus the blender jug is plastic, dishwasher safe and super light weight (unlike my previous glass one, which looks nice but was hard to maneuver).

The Chocolate Nut Smoothie:
1 Banana
1 Tablespoon of Almond Butter
1 Cup (or handful) of Spinach
1 Tablespoon of Cocoa Powder
4 Ice Cubes (or a "few")
1 Cup of Almond Milk

Blend and enjoy!  The cocoa powder adds a great chocolatey flavor for little to no calories (1 tablespoon only has 10 calories!) and the banana and almond milk give it a delicious creamy texture.  One serving of this smoothie is only 255 calories!
