my everyday style: getting fit with Old Navy activel

Oh January... the month of fresh starts and mandatory workouts.  Even if it weren't for our New Years resolutions (if you make them) it was just mere weeks ago we were eating cookies, taking two trips to the Christmas buffet at grandma's house and drinking champagne like it was the end of the world. Post holiday waistlines are not to be envied.

My workout of choice is some good old fashioned walking and with a heaping side of Pilates (which I call the anti-gravity work out - it seriously lifts and tones). my everyday style: holiday style with Old Navy!

It's the final mad dash towards the holidays and I hope you are enjoying this special time of year!  Old Navy asked us this month to come up with a party ready look for the holidays.  And while a little black dress is standard holiday wear this time of year (and rightly so!) that holiday uniform doesn't always fly here in the midwest.  It has been snowing for 8 solid days with no end in sight... and the weather is beautiful, but very cold!

Earlier this year I snagged these velvet pants knowing they would be my stand-by for holiday attire and so far they haven't let me down.  Paired with some fun finds at Old Navy like this gorgeous coat, festive sweater and blinged out oxford underneath I am party ready AND warm (mostly!).

my everyday style: winterization with Old Navy cardigans!

I was very inspired by winter with this outfit... can you tell? Winter gets a bad rap sometimes, but at the start it is quite magical.  All the plaid and Christmas lights and Thanksgiving turkey and wrapping paper.  Really... layering up with some flannel plaid, a cardigan and a fluffy scarf can't be beat this time of year.

Old Navy challenged it's blog ambassadors to style up cardigans this month and I quickly realized I hardly never wear cardis. Shame on me! They are the perfect added warmth and texture for any outfit, especially this time of year.  

Okay, let's talk about what's on the top of my head right now. Who is super hyped to officially kick off the holidays next week (or who has secretly started Christmas shopping and decorating ALREADY?!)??  I want to know!  I have picked up a few Christmas gifts already and I can't wait to do more.

my everyday style: sweater style with Old Navy!

Ahhhh... smell that? It's the start of sweater weather in Michigan. Fall is the weather's swan song before the long, cold winter. It's heaven I tell you!

I almost feel like we need a party to kick off the season...  a pretty sweater party, instead of the other kind of sweater party.  But for now I will revel in the soft, plush, goodness that is sweater season.  Old Navy has sweater season in the bag for you... with tons of great options, always at great prices (like this sweater poncho - love it! And doesn't this one look so snuggly?).  This sweater immediately caught my eye and the only tricky part about purchasing it was deciding what color.  I can see getting a ton of wear out of this baby and since I tend towards slouchier tops lately I purchased it a size up.  This way it will be perfect for layering and getting super cozy!

my everyday style: pattern mixing + Old Navy denim!

The best part is that Old Navy has jeans for you - so pick up a pair (or three) - and your husband and kiddos too... that is what I always love about shopping at Old Navy. I can swing through each department and snag a little something for everyone!  Like this dress and these jeans for my daughter - I mean really, how cute? Some boot fit jeans for my son and a dressier version of a hoodie to have on hand.  And then maybe these for the guy.  And the best part is that all jeans are on sale until 10/2.  So get shopping!

For this look Old Navy challenged it's brand ambassadors to come up with a look featuring their Rockstar skinnies and since that is my favorite style of denim from ON, I was thrilled to style them up!  This fall I love the idea of layering lots of neutrals and somehow stripes and camo seem like neutrals to me, so naturally they were a good fit for this look.  And with it still being September I feel like a pop of pink shoe is the perfect addition to this outfit to brighten it up a bit!

my everyday style: simple chic with Old Navy denim!

I've been reading this booklately and I am obsessed.  Have you read it? When a book touts that it's a guide to "effortless chic" I am all ears.  What I am learning from the book is that the key to Parisian style or effortless chic seems to be a delicate balance between the high and low, the casual and the dressy and then a little bit of mystery (the 'je ne sais quoi' if you will).  And while I wish a simple book would decode the entire phenomenon that is French style, it's not so easy - I feel like it takes practice.

So for now I will be a student of effortless chic. Always looking to try new things and learn more.  This outfit is the perfect example.... a subtly distressed pair of jeans and black sweater are always a good foundation in my book.  Old Navy never fails in this department. I love that you can pop in and grab a few essentials without totally breaking the bank. (more money for shoes!)  Then a few unexpected accessories like a bright yellow bag and dressy kitten heels take the look to the next level all without losing the casual no-big-deal feel about the look.

This month Old Navy challenged it's blog ambassadors to come up with a denim look with one of their trillion denim options (seriously, I tried on like 10 styles before settling on this pair, they really have something for everyone).  I loved that these had a lighter blue color with just a touch of distressing.  They look (and feel!) like they have been lived in for years, in the best way possible!  The perfect start to any effortless chic look in my book!
