pretty (obsessed) in pink!

2016 was the year of pink for me... and heck, it's going for a repeat in 2017!  I've always been drawn to pink, but lately there are so many pink goodies that keep snagging my eye... it's going to be a very pink spring for me, I predict!  Are you on the pink bandwagon too?

How can you not love these adorable pink sunglasses or this perfect slouchy hat  I could definitely see wearing this pink sweatshirt dress this spring.  Jeans and a tee are the perfect backdrop for a pink cardigan and slip on sneakers (much like I wore here).  And I wouldn't say no to these pink jeans or this biker jacket to brighten up winter. This oversized sweater and these pink boots  are making me weak in the knees, ladies!!!  What are your favorites?

We can all agree that January is just the worst.  It's so cold, the sun rarely comes out (at least here in Michigan) and we are all just patiently (or not) waiting for spring to arrive.  I don't tend to do a lot of shopping in January - there just aren't a lot of new options out there - and I like to more or less "save up" or wait for new spring arrivals.  But you know... sometimes a girl needs a little retail therapy!

This time of year I gravitate towards seasonless basics or classic neutrals as best I can when shopping.  Navy is a great color to invest in this time of year... it's perfect for winter and it's a also a great color for spring. Camel is a gorgeous fall hue that I am drawn to again and again. It's a warm color that pairs well with blacks, other browns, greys and even bright colors, making it the perfect fall and winter color to have on hand.  With it's ability to mix and match easily with your wardrobe it makes for an instantly classic piece.

spring obsession: blush pink!

I am eternally drawn to pink… all shades, all brightnesses, all of it.  Usually I go for the "Barbie" pinks - bright and bold. But this season I am totally into neutrals (I think I may have mentioned that before… like a million times, right?!).  Lucky for me there is the perfect pink for neutral lovers like myself this season… the softest and sweetest hue of pink is popping up everywhere and I am officially obsessed.

Pastels are always big for spring, but this spring blush pink seems to really be having a moment.  I can definitely see myself pairing this gorgeous color with jeans, white and black.  It's a flirty and feminine neutral that I really look forward to adding to my closet this spring.

shake up your winter wardrobe… go monochromatic!

Show of hands… who might be just a little teensy bit sick of their winter wardrobe by now? If you didn't raise your hand you obviously have too many clothes (kidding, maybe) or you haven't been wearing jeans and sweaters for three straight months like those of us up north here have been.  And I'm jealous of you (kidding again, maybe).

Of course I absolutely love my winter wardrobe, it's just that as February starts to roll around I am working harder and harder to keep it feeling fresh and stylish while I patiently wait for the weather to make it's slow ascent to spring.  Who's with me?

A great way to shake up our wardrobes this late in the winter season is to have some fun going monochromatic with our looks.  Try all black for a day (so European of you!) or pile on the red for a bold and sassy look… or look towards spring with a little extra white or pink for a day like the looks below.  Winter is a marathon - let's finish strong!

new in navy...

Winter style is well behind us as fair isle sweaters and the like have quickly found their way to the clearance racks.  However winter weather isn't on it's way out so soon, unfortunately... we have plenty of cold/cool temps to deal with before spring is officially here.

Now is the time to think transitionally with our wardrobes and navy is an easy and classic way to transition our closets from winter to spring.  It works today with jeans and boots, it works for spring break (if you are lucky enough to head south!) and it definitely works for spring with brighter colors or white jeans.

gorgeous green!

I'm having a little love affair with the color green lately... it could very well be the season. But let's face it, there is something classic and gorgeous about a deep green this time of year.  I originally went out in search of a great piece of green (or two) for the upcoming Alt Design Summit conference.  Word on the street has it that the opening party of the conference will have a green theme.  So of course I need the perfect ensemble.

But once I started looking, I got hooked.  There are so many beautiful hues and I love that it looks smart and snappy with denim, black or white - it seems like a no-brainer for styling up in any winter look.  Plus, it's a great color for the Christmas party circuits!

Is it just me or is black having a major moment in the spotlight this fall? Not that it was ever 'out' of style, but it's safe to say that black is definitely back 'in' style this fall. I've always loved wearing black (it is a no-brainer with jeans... and that is my kind of style) and sometimes I've worn it too much to a fault. But this season we totally have the permission to wear black (or even layer on multiples of black) as much as we like!

color trend: summer whites!

What color is more fun to wear in summer than white? It handily shows off your summer tan as well as being widely accepted this season over any other time of year.  Plus, it's super easy to accessorize... pair it with basics like black and denim or have some fun by pairing it with bold and bright colors like jewel tones, pastels or neon.

The options are endless... but the summer isn't! So grab some gorgeous white summer duds and seize the (summer) day (or night)!

summer in black and white!

I love to keep color trends in mind while planning outfits because I believe it's one of the easiest ways to get dressed in the morning.  Thinking of a whole outfit to wear can be daunting... however choosing one specific color (or two) and basing an outfit off of that idea can be much easier for me to pull together.

Black and white is a combo that keeps catching my eye lately.  And really, how easy is this combo? Chances are you already have plenty of black and white in your closet.  Pairing these two colors together is ultra bold for a little time investment.  To add interest to your black and white ensembles add  a pop of color or add textural interest with accessories.

pretty in pink!

I am a lover of color... which makes it hard to believe that just a few years ago I hardly wore any at all (what can I say, black and grey are easy fall back colors for busy ladies and moms alike).  As I have learned though it's not hard to wear color... it pairs well with neutrals like navy, black, denim and white and instantly adds enough pizazz to any outfit to make you ready to take on the day at the office and/or as a busy mom with confidence and style.

I love a lot of colors dearly (blue, peach and mint are just a few I have featured recently) but pink is a fierce and un-ending love of mine.  Just looking at it makes me happy... and wearing it, even happier.

new neutrals!

I'm having a bit of a split-personality issue with spring and summer clothes these days.  One day I am wearing fluorescent pink jeans or snapping up shorts in every color of the rainbow and the next I crave neutrals to the max with not a speck of color in my line of sight.  What gives?

There are some really great neutral pieces out there right now and neutrals are endlessly easy to wear (maybe it's the ease of use I crave?) so it's definitely not a bad thing!  Here I pulled some pieces together that I am seriously craving.

color trend: inspiring indigo!

Confession: I used to never know how to wear blue. So I never did. I feel like that is kind of sad now, because blue is my tried and true these days and it's such a classic color (all those wasted years!).

In reality, blue is one of the easiest colors to wear. It is both classic and relaxed and can even be quite formal depending on the ensemble.  The best way to wear blue? With other blue like these amazing looks. That is my take on it these days.  Pile on the blue from navy to sea to sky to chambray. Wear it all together!  Or if you aren't into the monochromatic look... blue looks great with white, orange (one of my favorite combos lately as well), grey or even other brights like pink or green!

color trend: pretty in peach!

Peach! Just the name reminds me of sunny days and juicy fruit.  This color is made for pairing with a killer summer tan or a fresh crop of sweet summer freckles.  It's creamy and fresh and ready to be paired with summers best colors, like neon, navy and white & black perhaps.

Depending on your skin tone and preferences... choose a hue of peach that has undertones of pink or orange to compliment your skin.  If you are feeling non-commital to peach in general you can easily just try a simple peach accessory or lipstick!

One of the colors I am most excited about wearing this spring is hardly even a color.  White, white, white has got me completely obsessed lately.  White jeans, white handbags and sweet little white dresses are catching my eye left and right...

spring obsession: neon + black and white!

This post started out as 'how to style neon jeans for spring'... because boy do I have a hankering for a pair of neon jeans! (or neon anything...) But as I started to pull pieces and inspiration to write and format this post I realized I have a stronger obsession growing for spring... neon with black and white... or just really bright pants within black and white ensembles.

color trend: mint!

Fresh and fun for spring mint is definitely a trend to try this spring!  Any of these pieces would work great with black, white, denim or mixed and matched with other pastels - so mint is super easy to style.
