My first 5 things to try at home post was almost a month ago - wow! Time is a weird thing lately. It is going insanely slow at moments and also very quickly. Back then we thought the stay at home order would be quick and over... now it's looking it will be a little longer as the country slowly and safely gets back to normal. While the stay at home order felt constricting and uncomfortable at the start (and truth be told, still does sometimes) our family has started to get in the groove of it and really look at the good parts of it. We love sleeping in a little, we have enjoyed lots of movie nights and a fair share of fast food which is usually only a treat (now it's a nice way to get out of the house safely!).
Today I've got 5 MORE things to try this month as we continue with at home learning and mostly staying home to stay safe... you can see the first 5 here!
1. Start hair and nails vitamins. I'm using these. I've always shied away from these since I'm worried about both my nails and my hair growing TOO fast. Think: grown out roots and manicures growing out too quickly. But since it will at least be a few weeks until salons open and then holy cow, good luck getting an appointment, I'm taking these with fervor. Is it helping? I mean my nails are growing like crazy, I like to keep them short and I feel like I am constantly trimming them. It's a little harder to tell with my hair because it's such a hot mess right now... but it can't hurt either.
2. Start crafting! Okay I was resistant to this one at first... but I have found crafts to be such a fun way to pass the time. And it's something I really look forward to working on each day. I used to craft A LOT more before I had kids. I loved to knit and scrapbook way back when. I haven't crafted in years but I randomly bought a paint by number after seeing a friend do one on social media and was HOOKED. The Pink Picasso brand is my favorite. You can find them here - but they sell out quickly, so keep checking back! I've finished one with the help of my daughter and have two more on the way! They are SO fun. I've also been doing needlepoint. It's quite challenging (for me at least!) but a fun way to keep my hands busy while watching a show or listening to a podcast. I did a needlepoint kit after September 11 and I remember it helping with the helpless and anxious feelings then and it still does today too. The needlepoint kits are harder to find - I got this one, it not for beginners but it's been fun!
3. Try CBD oil. I've used CBD oil for over a year for anxiety. I'm not a doctor, so check with a medical professional if you have questions. I personally love it. The CBD oil I take is non-reactive so there is no "high" feeling. Mostly it's just helped even out my anxiety and helped with sleep. I've found I have had to tweak my dosage here and there. What works for me right now is two capsules and 75mg of oil under my tongue before bed. Sometimes I will do an additional 75mg of oil under my tongue throughout the day too as needed. My anxiety has been all over the place during the past few months and I definitely notice when I DO NOT take it, so I know it's been working. 4. Car picnics. My daughter and I first did this last weekend and you know what!?!? It was really fun! Maybe a little messy but we loved it! We picked up food at drive thru and parked at the park and just sat in the car and talked and listened to music and ate our dinner. It was great. I see more of these in our future. It just felt so good to get out of the house!
5. Try a new skincare routine! I've been doing TONS of masks, trying some new products and just in general taking a lot of extra time in my skincare routine these days. I've got some time to kill (especially at night) and it's the perfect pampering that I need right now. You can see my morning and evening routine here - or just dig through your medicine cabinet and drag out all those masks or eye creams you bought and never used!
