I'm allllll about those summer vibes these days. As a work-at-home mom to a teen and tween I can tell you that summer is NOT always as chill or relaxing as I would like it to be. But I'm also working to remind myself that it's as chill as I make it out to be. I'm not naturally super "chill" so I've been working on it. Letting expectations slip, letting the house get a little lived in (read: destroyed), way too late bedtimes and a growing to-do list that seems impossible to finish are things that I am trying to be 'okay' with and just live instead... I easily get flustered when things don't go according to the "plan" - but I'm trying to throw the plan out the window and just ENJOY summer. Even the messy and hectic parts.
Of course there are some really great moments that seem to be chill all on their own... which I'm thankful for. It's those moments that give me the reprieve from the "crazy" to help me be better at the crazy... if that makes sense. Those moments for me usually end up being our time spent enjoying the lakeshore here in Michigan. There is nothing like it and it's hard to be stressed when you have sand in your toes, a front row to a boat parade or a good book at the sun drenched beach. We LOVE spending time at the lake in the summer. I naturally get lots of questions this time of year from people wanting to vacation in Michigan about where to go and what are our favorites. I could probably write 10 posts on this... but bookmark this one, because this is my cheatsheet for vacationing in Michigan. We are partial to the left coast (west coast) of Michigan because I personally think Lake Michigan is the best lake, but I'm partial. So here are our favorite cities on the "best" coast...
Southern Western Michigan
Perfect for those traveling from Chicago or Indiana.
South Haven and Saugatuck are two favorites. There are some great wineries in this SW Michigan and Saugatuck is charming with darling little shops.
Mid- Western Michigan
Perfect for those that want to spend time in Grand Rapids AND the Lakeshore.
We love Grand Haven but Holland is great too! And make sure to spend some time at the amazing breweries in Grand Rapids.
Northern Western Michigan
Perfect for those that want to get away from it all and experience the best of Michigan.
Our personal favorite is Glen Arbor but we also love Suttons Bay (great wineries!), Traverse City (big city feel on the lake) and we've spent a lot of time in Charlevoix (boat heaven) and it's beautiful there too.
If you have any more specific questions... ask them in the comments here and I will answer them and I'm sure others have the same questions too!
