At the end of August we started the almost complete renovation of the main floor. The only thing that didn't change were the walls/floor plan. The renovations including adding tons of electrical (overhead lighting, recessed lighting, etc), painting the entire home top to bottom WHITE (so clean!), replacing all the flooring, replacing the entire kitchen and replacing the powder room.
Some days I can't believe how far we have come since August. Other days, it still feels like we are still living in a renovation zone. The to-do list is endless in this home, but so far we are really happy we made the change for our family (that's a whole different story "how to know when you've grown out of your home"). We are still working on making decisions about tile, trim, window treatments and furniture. But so far this project is really coming along. Today I am admittedly only showing you the 'pretty' and 'finished' parts of the home. Believe me, there are still tons of areas that look a wreck! ;)
The entry way is so bright and fresh. I'm so in love with it... in the top left of the photo you can kind of see the mirrors we did lining the stairs. We took inspiration from here. The actual stair treads are unfinished, so more on the mirrors when the stairs are done. For now a simple console (Home Goods), wooden beads (Target) and a sunburst mirror (Home Goods) welcome you to the home.
We decided to turn the eat-in kitchen area into a sitting room. Hands down one of the best decisions we've made. Everyone hangs in the kitchen anyway, it's the perfect spot for a cup of tea in the morning or a glass of wine at night and I can easily sit here with a book while the kids work on homework. It's fast become everyone's favorite spot in the house. And the huge drum table holds all of our board games - so there is fun at the ready! The art work is Target, light and rug (similar rug) are both IKEA, chairs are a Home Goods find (similar chairs) and the drum table is from World Market. I'm itching to get some window treatments up in this area.
The kitchen was the biggest transformation (someday I will show before and after - but take my word!). We used all IKEA cabinets and LOVE them and expanded the island and did all quartz countertops ('Noble Grey' by Caesar Stone). The open shelves and hardware are also all from IKEA. The lighting is all West Elm (these and these) and the stools are Target. I'm excited for the tile backsplash that will finish this space off nicely. I just need to decide which tile first!
This is one little finished corner of our family room. We are still working on making furniture decisions in this room - which is no small feat! But for now we are in love with these new chairs (Home Goods) and pillows paired with some of our favorites from our previous house like the antique black chest and glass cocktail table. This rug was previously in our Master Bedroom but we actually like it much more for our living room. This is another room that desperately needs window treatments. But I am in love with the HUGE windows.
So that's it! Just a tiny peak into our home these days... be sure to follow my home account on Instagram for more behind the scenes tours and updates!
