neutral pots for plants!

On a whim last weekend while my husband and I were doing some plant care I posted about some plants we have in the house... wow! I never could've imagined you all were so excited about plants! In poured DMs about plant care, where we got all our pots and so many compliments on our little (but growing!) plant collection. We are lucky that our current home gets really great light for plants which has helped a TON. We have lived in other homes that just didn't have the best light, so I feel your pain if that is your situation.

Today I will post a few of our tricks (I mean, we are amateurs at this, to be sure... but we have learned a few things!) and some links to some pots I've found that I think you will like. All of our pots are from small boutiques or just are no longer in stock so I unfortunately can't link the exact pots.

First let's talk plant care! Most plants like a lot of sun, regular watering and room to grow. We have found that after purchasing a plant it usually ALWAYS needs to be repotted. Think a plant usually starts it's life in the pot you bought it in, so it will need more room quickly. If you are bringing home plants and they always seem to die a few months later it likely means they need repotting. We keep some random pots and potting soil at the ready in the garage. This has been our biggest lesson learned! We have had plants half dead and when we repot them they instantly perk up. Next we always make sure to water regularly. This seems intuitive but it's taken us a while to get a rhythm. My husband is the designated plant waterer so that we don't overlap duties and he always waters on the weekend. Each plant needs a little different water amounts but google it and see what your specific plant likes best. And lastly sunlight! We used to plop down some plants wherever we thought it looked good and that was that. But we've learned in our current home that plants love light and really want to be as close to it as possible. So most of our plants are right near windows now. Again, it's super intuitive, but I was guilty of putting a plant in a dark corner to 'brighten up a room' or on a bookshelf because it looked great and really our plants love the windows. Plain and simple.

So to review our super simple plant care tips:

1. Water at the same time each week. We usually do Saturday or Sunday.

2. Repot new plants asap after you buy them.

3. Place your plants as close to windows in your home as possible.
