casa good life: master bedroom!

As promised, I have more updates that have been going on here at my house, my master bedroom reveal is today!!! This project is one I started the first week in July and am still working on. It seems endless... but it's at a point where it will be staying for a while. Until I find more inspiration... but I REALLY love the way it's come together so far. It's my new favorite room in the house...

Here are the before's...

Should I go into why/how this room was so hideous? I may have mentioned before, but I was 8 months preggo when we moved into this house and I had to choose all the wall colors sight-unseen to have them completed before we moved in.

I love this yellow-ish color, but the western sun in the afternoon made the color too "warm" for my likings. Plus our entire house is more cool tones.

The IKEA dressers weren't useful or good looking. But the room did have other great features, like it's size and the windows. It was just not my 'style' at all. Overall the room was drab and uninteresting.

Now... the afters!!!

This is definitely the room that the internet built. Between finding inspiration on blogs and craigslist buys... this room could not have come together this inexpensively without the internet.

I'm no pro at decorating... but for the most part I know what I like and after that I have a very small budget. So no designer this or fancy that. I did this room on the super cheap.

My goal was to have a pulled together look that was cool and calm and comforting. I really feel like I accomplished that. (excuse the towel under the tv, we are hoping to get a wall mounted tv and I didn't want this old lug to mess up the finish on the dresser!).

Now for some of the details:

I found this chandelier on craigslist for $20... after a thorough spray of high gloss BLACK spray paint for about $3 I had a new chandy for less than $25. A fine replacement for the ugly ceiling fan. Plus, we put it on a dimmer... nice, very nice!

I love this little set-up... it's just outside my closet and is a fun place to display favorite jewelry pieces and some fashion-y books as well. I didn't properly photograph this, but it is a small two drawer campaign-style dresser.

I love symmetry. It calms me. This set up is ideal for me. The mirrors are from IKEA ($15 each), the lamps are from HomeGoods ($25 each), black & white pillow covers are from IKEA ($7 each). And I am a strictly ALL WHITE bedding gal. I just love the feeling of it. Patterned sheets/duvet makes me feel like I can't relax.

This is the larger of the two campaign-style dressers. We got this one and the two-drawer side table campaign-style pieces for $50 (for both) on craigslist and then painted them and put the hardware back on. They are gorgeous... I am IN LOVE with them. But they are pieces of crap, the drawers hardly open and they aren't too steady on their feet. For now my husband has agreed to keep them in the room because they were so cheap. I love them because they are so pretty. We were bummed that they aren't practical though.

So there it is! Other details... the curtains and rods are from IKEA ($15 and $7 respectively). The floral wall hangings were antique store finds that I spray painted a while back. The bed frame is old, from IKEA and the small leather chair is a hand-me-down from my parents. Did I cover it all?

As you can see, the budget was tight... but I think I really pulled off a great look for super cheap. On our wish list is a fancier tv, a piece of art for above the bed and a full length mirror. I'm sure we'll add them over time... but for now, it's a dreamy place to fall asleep!
