ANY WHO.
On last night's particular "shop talk" with my husband I was reminding him how much I am craving clogs for fall and just how amazing clogs are and blah, blah, blah. The usual. He said "I guess I don't get the clog thing, aren't they for nurses?" And I replied...
(at this point you may be wondering how my husband even listens to me talk about this junk. he obviously really loves me... but I'm not dumb, he also really likes to humor me)
"Well, Chanel sent them down the runway last fall and since then, really no one can stop talking about them and with the trickle down effect (you, know, from the Devil Wears Prada) that puts them on the cusp of 'style' like right now... just in time for fall."
His response: Blank stare. Then...
"What!?! How do you know all this?"
~~~
Does this mean I have been blogging for too long, or just the right amount of time? Believe me, I have always loved clothes, maybe not so much "FASHION" - but I would have NEVER even dreamed that this sentence would have come out of my mouth two years ago. And now it's reality.
~~~
I don't really consider myself a "fashion" blogger. I'm calling it more of an "outfit" blogger. I like "outfits"... but somewhere along the line fashion does creep in. Which is kind of cool and kind of... well, um, a little frivolous and pointless too. Have you seen The September Issue. Even Anna Wintour claims so.

But really "fashion," even high fashion, determines what us lay-folks will wear some where down the line. No?

On another note... I'm sensing from some emails I've received that you all are eager for the fall looks:book. I was thinking an early September release. Is that too late? Maybe mid-August. Let me know your thoughts... as always, I value them!

Jill, your husband is one of a kind. When I start talking about clothes, shoes, make-up, hair cuts, etc., he always says: "Please, go get a girlfriend!". Or "Call my mother!".
When he asks about what I am wearing, usually it is because he dind't like it. But I can live (I mean, survive) with it...
Love the blog talk with the clueless hubby! I get the blank stare all the time. But he humors me as well, so it's all good. You know I love shop talk, so email me any time! Although I know what you mean-it would be so much easier in person. Thats why you need to plan a trip to California!
As far as the fall looks book-I would go for a mid August release. In September you definitely already feel in the fall mood, so if you release it the month before it gives us some time to get ready!
This outfit is awesome. I love how fresh looking it is. I'm your newest follower:)

I don't even try to talk to my hubby about this and he worked in apparel (well weaving apparel fabric) - LOL! Fashion drives almost everything, it trickles down to almost every market - I say this from experience (it was my job to keep up w/it). It's a delicate balance to acknowledge that it's a part of all of our lives (like it or not) but not get sucked into thinking it's life or death. I had a saying at work when things got heated and dramatic (creative types get that way - LOL!) "we ain't curing cancer here, it's just fabric." (and in the case of healthcare fabric, it's fabric that people can puke and pee on - yeah I went there).
Anyway I always crave shop talk - no one around my way either so feel free to email (or I might email you - be warned - LOL!)
As for the Fall look book - I agree w/Jackie would aim for mid-August sort of like the magazines ;o)
xoxo J
It's amazing how quickly it is to become immersed in fashion and fashion trends once you begin. Luckily, you've got a supportive spouse that humors you.
Stop by and have a look around:

Just found your blog...you are so cute and have a great sense of style!
You really can't expect men to get clogs, but if you like them go for it! Just started following your blog and I love the concept! I am having a giveaway for a gift card to csn.com and I would love for you to enter. They have great stuff for your home.

Hi there, I am new to reading your blog, found you about a week ago from another blog I read, can't recall which one! I just want to say that I definitely think of
fashion as an art and I am so inspired at the things you put together--I've been letting my personal style go to absolute crap lately---with the excuse that I am super busy at work & half exhausted at all times. But, ignoring how you look makes one *feel* like crap. Taking care in how we present ourselves helps us to be more outwardly focused--i.e. if we feel that we look bad, we are dwelling on us (inward). Conversely, if we feel we look good, we then feel confident, forget about ourselves and focus outward--on others/work/etc. If that makes sense? Thanks for the inspiration!
You are too funny. I totally talk about the "fashion" stuff with friends or family and they all wonder how I know some of the rules or official names for some of the styles. I tell them I read. I probably read too much of magazines, blogs, watch tv, etc. And I definitely believe in the Devil Wears Prada trickle down thing.
And I think you're an outfit blogger who infuses fashion into her looks. It's one thing to make outfits, but it's another to include some of those trickled-down styles in them :) Keep it up, lady!

I can totally relate to your discussions with your hubster. Mine tolerates my little design reveries, even participating in blog posts sometimes!
I think it's great for our significant others to know our passions.
you are right on target - the part in devil wears prada where she gives andy a lecture on her sweater is the best part of the movie -- because its so true!
and september issue - a great movie! :)

I've actually had a Chanel clog conversation with my husband as well. (He did not understand why I wanted to photograph my handmade red silk poppy on burlap and not stuck on a house plant in what he considered to be 'the money shot'.
